Home-working the key to maternal entrepreneurs

The ability to work from home is vital to female entrepreneurs who have young children, experts have claimed.

According to female business specialists every woman, some child-rearing women start small enterprises to fulfil their need for flexible employment.

Commenting on the importance of flexible work, Karen Gill, co-founder of the firm, says: ‘Working from home is an enormous motivator for women with children, who still do the ‘lion’s share’ of home and family care.

‘One of the biggest motivators for starting your own enterprise for a woman is the flexibility it gives you from a location and time perspective.’

Recent statistics have shown that almost one million (987,000) women in the UK are self-employed - 27 per cent of the total amount of self-employed workers.

In addition, only 12 per cent of all businesses are female owned, with female entrepreneurs making up just 6.8 per cent of the working population.
